In the beginning - Positive Steps was founded by Jane Cherry after spending 18 months in Malawi as a Nurse Tutor in 2007/08, with Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO), supported by the Department of International Development (DFID).
In Malawi there is no incapacity benefit, family support, sick leave, critical illness cover or savings for people to fall back on, and the health service does not have the funds to support specialised medical care and training.
Called ‘Positive Steps’, following the success of the initial fund raising which assisted in the provision of prosthetic limbs for Mangani, Ellen, Grisella and Loveness.
Our Work - Since then the charity continues to deliver funding for essential care ... As a small group of volunteers we work with enthusiasm to do this, by raising money to provide direct aid and working with other organisations in a way that we believe makes a real difference to the lives of people of Nkhoma and its surrounding area, in Malawi, Africa.
In December 2014 the work of Positive Steps was recognised by the UK Charity Commission (see below) … fantastic news and a brilliant conclusion to all the hard work by the team ...
