Thank You to …

Positive People ... Doing Positive Things ... for Positive Steps ...

Our Regular Donors without all of you we would not have the confidence to commit to our on-going commitments in Malawi, which are making a real difference to the lives of individuals such as Victor and Ellen.  Every little bit helps … thank you so much!

Emma Chutter and Margaret Cox  Thanks to Emma and Margaret who have crocheted & knitted soft toys that we have been able to take out to Nkhoma Hospital for the children. Hospital can be a very stressful time for any child and it is common practice in the UK to give a child a soft toy on admission to hospital that can give them some comfort and perhaps a slight distraction from what is going on.  The photographs here show just a few of the children who have received them …

Thank you to Emma and Margaret for making this possible in Nkhoma as well

Jenny Balcon ... who has made and donated hats of all shapes, sizes and colours and this beautiful cardigan (below) which were delivered to patients at Nkhoma Hospital during our Malawi 2014 trip ...

Bob Burns …  Positive Steps sponsored the printing of this poster, kindly designed for free by Bob.  The new block in Nkhoma hospital was built with flushing toilets, but many of the patients are only used to pit latrines.  This poster reminds them that a flushing toilet cannot be used to dump other waste, which is essential in maintaining the system in working order and improving sanitation at the hospital.  Thank you Bob!

Bob Perry ... Bob works for BOC, which is the largest supplier of industrial gases and related equipment in the United Kingdom.  He and his colleagues have very kindly been able to donate unused/out of date medical equipment that Positive Steps has now delivered to, and been gratefully received by Nkhoma Hospital. Relatively simple pieces of medical equipment, such as bag valve masks, make a real difference ... thank you Bob and the team at BOC!

The Breadstock Team ... A huge thank you to Tim and Dani Farrell who organised Breadstock 2014 and picked Positive Steps as their charity for that year, but also to their generous sponsors who kindly donated prizes or agreed to donate their time by being judges on the day and making this such a fantastic event! See our blog for more information ... Thank you Breadstock!

The Wyvern Academy ... In order to improve the nutrition of burn ward patients, in 2014 the Wyvern Academy, Weymouth started selling eggs in order to purchase one egg per day for every patient on the burn ward at Nkhoma Hospital. This is a fantastic thing to do because eggs are a great source of protein and will make a considerable difference to the wound healing and recovery of these patients. See our blog for more information ... Hugest thanks to Wyvern Academy for supporting Positive Steps and making this possible!

Above: Timothy, a patient on the burn ward at Nkhoma Hospital in July 2014 ... Children like Timothy will benefit from receiving an egg daily whilst they are on the burn ward ... But, lollies are also very good for healing burns too! (Photo: Nick Marsden)

Kate Boardman ... Kate continues to make and donates beautiful cross stitch cards.

We sell these cards and all proceeds go directly into the charity.  It is fantastic that Kate's hobby and intricate work continue to raise funds for Positive Steps ... every bit helps and goes a long way in Malawi! ... Grateful thanks to Kate for her continued support.

Rotary Club of Dorchester ... Thank you to Richard Lock and the Rotary Club of Dorchester for including Positive Steps as one of their locally-based charities to raise funds for in their 2014 Christmas raffle.

Friends of Positive Steps sold the tickets on behalf of the Rotary Club and in return received a cheque for £204.74 ... a great result for the people who positive Steps supports in and around Nkhoma Hospital. This money will make a real difference and will/could be used to pay for blood pressure cuffs to support a Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) project in rural Malawi at centres around the hospital, with a focus on blood pressure and diabetes.  The remainder of the money will be used to fund the monthly Ambulance trip to 500 Miles, the prosthetic and orthotic centre in Lilongwe (see Projects and Activities) ... It is fantastic that Positive Steps has been recognised by such an auspicious organisation in the UK ... a link that we hope to strengthen in the future. Thank you to Richard and Rotary for your support!

Finally ... A huge THANK YOU to all of you who continue to do, or have done so much for positive steps ... see NEWS ... OUR BLOG ... or follow us on FACEBOOK for more news and information on projects and events ...

THANK YOU!
